2013 FSDA Interbay Spearfishing Championship-for boat and shore divers

2013 FSDA Interbay Spearfishing Championship
(Sunday, February 3, 2013 Tampa, Florida)

The Florida Skin Divers Association invites all Spearfisherman to participate in the competition and camaraderie of the “2013 FSDA Interbay Spearfishing Championship.” This one-day tournament will be held in Tampa Bay, Florida on Sunday, February 3, 2013. Recognition will be given on individual levels based upon an aggregate point scoring system. Additional recognition will be given to the individual turning in the single largest fish of the tournament and largest stone crab.
Agenda / Rules:
1. This Tournament will be a one-day tournament held on Sunday, February 3, 2013 at The Gandy Bridge Beach.(The South West side of the Gandy Bridge, just west of the large Radio tower) The Rain Date/ Small Craft Advisory date for this tournament will be Sunday February 10th, 2013.
2. Registration will be held on the day of the tournament from 8:00 AM to 9:00 AM.
3. The cost will be $25.00 per diver plus F.S.D.A. Membership for non F.S.D.A members of $10.00.
4. No diving limits. Divers may dive anywhere in Tampa Bay inside of The New Skyway Bridge, as long as they leave and return to the Gandy Bridge Beach starting point. Shore divers and Kayak divers are encouraged to compete.
5. All competitors must possess and present a valid State of Florida Fishing License to compete in the competition.
6. All Divers and Capitan’s are Required to attend The Tournament Briefing / Captains Meeting, that will be held on the beach at 9:00 AM Sharp.
7. This Tournament will start at 9:15 AM and end at 3:00PM. At 9:15 AM after the Captain’s Meeting, boats may safely leave the beach and head out to hunt the waters of Tampa Bay. All competitors must be back at the beach and in the weigh-in line, no later than 3:00 PM.
8. All competitors and fish must be in weigh-in line by the 3:00 PM cut off time. No exceptions!!
9. Boats are the sole responsibility of each competitor. Breakdowns of any type are no excuse for not returning to the dock in time for the 3:00 PM cut off. Any competitor that arrives at the weigh-in line after 3:00 PM cut-off may be disqualified.
10. All fish belong to the competitors.
11. Awards will be given to the Overall Tournament Winner, The King Crab and The Largest Fish. All awards will be presented following the weigh-in.
12. The Eligible Species List is a s follows:

• Mangrove Snapper
• Hogfish
• Sheephead
• Black Drum
• Black Sea Bass
• Sand Perch
• Lizard Fish
• Mullet
• Jack Cravalle
• Barracuda
• Spade Fish
• Lady Fish
• Stone Crab (10 claws)
• Grey Grunt
• Flounder
• Cobia
• Catfish
• Lion Fish
• Spanish Mackerel
• Porgy

13. Scoring: 10 points per fish, 1 point per pound (No Max), 1 fish per category. The highest aggregate point total wins. Example: 7 fish turned in x 10 points per fish = 70 points. 56 lbs total weight = 56 points. Total points = 126 points.
14. Kayak and shore divers will be awarded 2 extra points per fish turned in.
15. Any infraction of any Florida State Law, will also result in disqualification.
16. Fish must be in fresh iced condition when presented to the weigh master.
17. The King Crab Competition will be calculated separately from the main competition. The diver that presents the largest single stone crab claw will be crowned “The King Crab”.
18. The Big Fish Competition will be calculated separately at the end of the weigh-in. Competitors wishing to enter their largest fish from the eligible fish categories may do so once all of the teams and individuals have weighed their days catch. Heaviest fish wins.
19. Disqualification: Violation of any State Laws, Unsportsmanlike conduct, or tournament rules may result in disqualification.
20. Protest: Any diver or boat driver may file a protest with the tournament chairperson. A protest committee will be formed. The tournament Chairperson will vote as a tie breaker if necessary. All decisions of this committee are final.
21. Observers are not required: This tournament is for honor. Be sure that you are deserved to be honored, and follow all of the rules.
22. There will be a special Raffles with proceeds benefiting diver’s rights.
23. This is a fun competition, please dive safe and enjoy the day.
24. Make all entry fee checks payable to “Florida Skin Divers Association”

Yes, Jim. The boundary is inside the Skyway bridge only. The weigh-in and captain's meeting are at Gandy bridge which is one of the only shore-dive able hunting spots on our coast. Should make for some very interesting stringers

Here are results from the FSDA Interbay Championship. Great day on the water and great turn-out for our first FSDA event of the year. Ritchie Zacker was overall winner diving from a kayak with father/son team Matthew Brueckner (biggest claw) and junior shooter Barrett Brueckner (biggest fish) taking home some impressive family glass.

No lionfish. The Skyway bridge was the outer boundary. Not saying they haven't made them inside the Bay yet, but I haven't seen any anywhere around the mouth of the Bay yet.
