Awesome numbers.... I love a bracket with modern day 4 stroke outboards!

Re: California Dive Boats -- the legend of Radon (pictures)

32Juan..is that 24 is a glass ply? any idea what it weighs? So rad to see an older boat restored and good as new.

Here's the performance numbers from El Tiburon Sportfishing's 22ft Anderson recently extended to 25 and Yami OB swapped for the old i/o.....really good numbers imo for a 25fter:

--------------------------------------------------------------------

"We splashed the boat yesterday and she performed better than I ever imagined. The boat sits great in the water, it's stable as hell, and the ride is amazing. There are a few bugs we still need to work out but everything should be dialed in within a few days.

Yesterday we ran a 15.25" x 17 pitch x 4 blade. It was super fun, but it was only able to reach 4800 rpms, no where near the 5500-6000 rpm max operating range recommended by Yamaha. Today, we ran a 15.25" x 15 pitch x 4 blade. It was way less sporty, but it was much more practical.

Prop: 15.25" x 17 pitch
Condition: slight wind chop
Load: heavy
Full tank of fuel, 4 adults and 1 child, 200lbs of gear, 60 gallon of water in the live wells
1500 rpms 8 mph 3.5 mpg
2000 rpms 10 mph 2.4 mpg
2500 rpms 12 mph 1.9 mpg
3000 rpms 16 mph 1.9 mpg Minimum planning speed
3500 rpms 23 mph 2.1 mpg
4000 rpms 33 mph 2.5 mpg
4500 rpms 38 mph 1.9 mpg
4800 rpms 40 mph 1.8 mpg WOT

Prop: 15.25" x 15 pitch
Condition: slight wind chop
Load: heavy
Full tank of fuel, 2 adults plus a dog, 300lbs of gear, 103 gallons of water in the live wells
1500 rpms 8 mph 3.8 mpg
2000 rpms 10 mph 2.9 mpg
2500 rpms 12 mph 2.1 mpg
3000 rpms 15 mph 2.0 mpg
3500 rpms 18 mph 1.8 mpg Minimum planning speed
4000 rpms 29 mph 2.4 mpg
4500 rpms 33 mph 2.0 mpg
5000 rpms 39 mph 1.6 mpg
5400 rpms 41 mph 1.5 mpg WOT

Both tests were performed in similar conditions with similar loads, the engine was in the same tilt position and the trim tabs were all the way up.

Here are some numbers from 3 real world scenarios we experienced today.

Conditions: moderate wind chop on the beam (crossing the Channel mid afternoon)
Load: light (no water in the wells)
3600-3700 rpms 26 mph 2.6-2.7 mpg
4000-4100 rpms 30 mph 2.3-2.4 mpg 12.5 gph

Conditions : super sloppy (Potato Patch - Santa Cruz Island)
Load: light (no water in the wells)
3400 rpms 18 mph 2.1 mpg
* trim tabs way down

The 15.25" x 15 was the better prop of the two. We could do 19-22 kts and 2.4-2.5 mpg all day long. For a 25' boat, I'll take those numbers. Running down swell / down wind we saw numbers as good as 2.7-2.8 mpg, and in the slop we did not drop below 2.1-2.2 mpg.

I think with a massage to open the pitch another 3/4" and a mild cup you'd be able to get the motor in its range and keep the numbers. Nice looking rig.

if you're gonna fish her heavy like that every day, seems you would want to get your RPMs to spec.

Aloha

I need to diy spray some Gelcoat on my Lil rig and maybe move up to a bigger rig (g17!). Can anyone here tell me the deal? Sand substrate to 120.... Spray 2 coats of 15‰ thinned Gelcoat with 6% wax . Is that all there is to it? I've seen a few restos... Looks like they leave them unsanded, just wax the orange peel and enjoy the unbuffed commercial matte finish? (my preference)

Mucho Mahalo

Uh oh? Did I get in trouble? Is it a trade secret? Some one told me that's how they did them in Oregon.
My apologies if I'm asking too much.

Hey 32Juan The last Anderson 26 I owned did 3.6 mpg 3200 rpm 22 knots with single Yanmar 6LP (315 hp) with v-drive. It road like a dream with the weight in the center of the boat.
Who needs a bracket and outboard?
