Question Deep water areas off Southern California Coast

Hi all:

I've been freediving for about a couple years now, but haven't found an opportunity to really test my depth limits.

I live in the LA area, and would like to know if there are any locations nearby, or anywhere between Ventura and San Diego where the seabed drops off rapidly, to like a depth of 100 ft or so? So far, the deepest I've gone is 75 ft (just under 23 meters), and would like to push beyond. That is, if I can find a such a place within a 2 mile radius of a safe beach.

Any ideas? I'm happy to be a buddy to anyone equally game to push the limit.

Thanks,
Jon

Consider signing up for a FFI course. They can really teach you safe technique and you'll be hitting 150 within a week for sure.

Hueneme Canyon drops to 250+ but you need a crew.

Re: Deep water areas off Southern California Coast

Hi Audaces:

Thanks for the tip, but I already did that. That's how I got the 75 feet in the first place! :-)

What I'm looking for are locations off shore that I can swim to which actually get to at least 100 ft, with a properly trained buddy of course...

Any tips?
Jon

Re: Deep water areas off Southern California Coast

Hi guys:

I appreciate the words of caution, which is why I never go out alone, and am in the market for more diving buddies. I've been diving for a couple years now, but my usual buddy is out this whole month.

Redondo Beach off Veteran's park is one of my usual spots. If any of you would like to join me here, or anywhere else, I'd be grateful for your company and watchful eyes. I will of course return the favor as we gradually work our way further, meter by meter.

Thanks,
Jon
