Anybody been out lately?

Was out of JP 2 weeks ago and bottom temp. was 73F.. Am sure somebody went yesterday or today. Just wondering if the bottom temp. has warmed up more. Heading out Saturday. Looks like it's going to be a busy weekend on the water. Good hunting to everybody that's going.

Re: Anybody been out lately?

Found out for myself on Saturday out of JP. Seas forecast changed overnight. Still it wasn't bad. Depth: 75'-70'. Bottom water temp.: 75F. Horz. vis: at least 40'. Fish: Some nice size gags seen. Small goes, hogs and red grouper. We did get a few decent hogs. We moved around and did about 4 dives in the 75'-70' depth due to the great vis.. Tops of the reefs had plenty of sand dusting from the recent high winds and wave action. Was surprised at the really great vis in 75'-70'. Did 2 dives in 60' and basically the same thing. 1 dive in 50' and the horz, vis dropped down to about 25'. Water temp: 78F.. Fish: Lots of small stuff. No sharks seen on any dives. Looks like the H&L guys have been targeting hogfish pretty good. A few of the spots always had nice size hogs. This trip most of the hogs were 10" to almost 14" on those spots. Anybody go past 75'?

Re: Anybody been out lately?

Should be a lot of fish out there to spear due to the lack of trip reports.

Re: Anybody been out lately?

Went Sunday out of JP and dove between JP and Clwr. to a few miles south of the ditch. Depths were 80'-64'. Go down 10'-15' and see the bottom. About 40' horz. vis.. Bottom temp averaged 78F.. No sharks seen. So not a lot of nice size fish seen. 2 groups of us and about a total of 9-10 dives. Everybody brought home enough for a "few" dinners. Wasn't a "slay fest". Plenty of shooter gags seen slowly moving ahead of us and then turning around to watch us swim by. I even tried "hawk hunting". Swimming slow and around 30'-35' off the bottom to see where they fish moving ahead went to. Same results as looking in holes, cracks, throwing up sand. Next trip, we'll try deeper.
