All About Pole Spears & Slings What is it about that traditional method of the early hunter/gatherers under the water? These devices are indeed interesting and effective.

This sounds interesting. Is there anyway you could post a pic or two?
Thanks!

I could post a pic, but there is nothing to see. Just cut the cap end off the golf grip and slide it down the pole spear. Heat the rubber in boiling water and use dish soap to lubricate..

I did the same thing, use a smaller cord. You would not believe the drag it causes.

I'm trying to find the best grip possible considering drag, grip, comfort and accuracy but idc about price. What other grips have you guys tried that weren't as good as what you've got now? Maybe list em in order from lame to fame

Re: polespear grips show me your ideas.

I'm far from a veteran, but here is my limited list based on trying several things...

Best to worst:
1) Self-amalgamating tape over heavy dynema or cord
(grippy, inexpensive)
2) Heat shrink over cord (like Gatku)
(pretty grippy if use gloves, inexpensive, durable)
3) Textured metal grip (like on Ray Odor)
(not very grippy, very durable, not standard on many products)

I'd like to see a grip that was less about being sticky and soft and mayby more about providing a high friction sand-paper-like grip for already soft gloves. Not sure why thats not out there (or haven't seen it).

I'm glad you posted, if intermediates don't post out of modesty then only the immodest intermediates would post thinking they're veterans. Veteran isn't always synonomous with wisened & a lot can be said about a fresh pair of eyes with some ingenuity/imagination but a modest veteran, now that's a Dalai Lama

It sounds like you're looking for skateboard grip tape. That's what I was thinking but I was afraid it'd grip too much when I let go or cut me up in summer. I had some with big grain & lots of gaps that I bet would wear out gloves but grip hard. Devildiver wrote this in another thread: "I really like skateboard deck tape. You can pick up a role of similar stuff at Home Depot for $10 bucks. It stays on, and gives you a hell of a grip."

I've also seen stuff in plumbing, electrical & electronics like liquid tape and plastic/rubber products that may be useful in inventing something that's the best of both worlds or with less drag etc. I mean someone engineered sandpaper so I bet someone can invent something perfect. Nice profile pic btw

Re: polespear grips show me your ideas.

Self fusing silicone tape is being sold here on the east coast as "rescue tape" and the stuff is absolutely awesome. It's ten buck a roll but worth it. Stretch it as much as you want while wrapping your grip and it just seems to bond that much better as you overlap it on its self. Just goggle rescue tape or check your local hardware store. Amazon has it too in nine colors now. I haven't seen it at Lowes or Home Depot but all the smaller stores seem to have it. Sorry to sound like a rep for the company but after making a lot of grips and being dissatisfied I was really thrilled to find this stuff.

Re: polespear grips show me your ideas.

Skateboard grip tape! Certainly looks promising so Ill have a go. I use cheap coated gloves like Gorilla grip. Im not so concerned about wearing them out. I am concerned about making a clean harvest when I get the chance.
