Re: Utah Visibility Overview (please contribute!)

Good luck if you go to starvation. I was there last weekend and couldn't find a decent walleye to save my life. They are a mystery to me in the late summer and fall. I cant seem to find them. We did shoot about 50 of the fattest carp I have ever seen though. Seemed like every drop we would see at least 1 carp. Even shot several floating on the surface breathing up and they would just swim under us.

Re: Utah Visibility Overview (please contribute!)

Deer Creek last week between storms was actually pretty good. The water is murked up pretty good till 25-30 ft. Below that it opens up to 10-12ft viz. but a bit dark. Lots of small walleye though.

I hear similar for Starvation but the fish are 5ft shallower but they are bigger in size. I want to get out to Starvation myself on Saturday but I may have to settle for Deer Creek.

Re: Utah Visibility Overview (please contribute!)

I had to settle for Deer Creek and I'm glad I did. Starting to see bigger fish but only later in the morning when the sun was higher and could penetrate the murk. 3-5 foot viz down to 30 ft then it open up to 5 or 6ft till you get to 45 then the visibility drops way down to 2ft. I was seeing the walleye at about 40ft. I also never really felt a thermocline to about 49ft. The water was 3 degrees cooler Saturday at 65deg compared to 68 on the Tuesday before. I was seeing ghosts and hints of fin tips early in the morning until the sun finally came over the mountain and hit the water directly. At that point I could see about 1 foot past the end of my outstretched arm and extended 70cm gun.
If you have a recent fishing experience lets hear it!

Dove Deer Creek after class today. Vis was only about 2-3 feet around the island. Not many fish around. I might try another spot early next week.

Slamcorps,
I like your island, great idea. I would like to make something similar. Do you anchor it or tow it around like a float?

Re: Utah Visibility Overview (please contribute!)

Dove deer creek this morning, vis 2-4 feet down to 25-30 feet, 5-8 vis down to 40. Saw walleye from 25-40 feet. Water 60deg. Pitch black at 50 feet, but i think there were walleye there, ghostly little white spots in the blackness. The bigger fish seem to be deeper, but little walleye by the dozens at 25-30 feet. I usually dive deer creek at least once a week and the walleye have been consistently going 2-5 feet deeper per week on an average this last month. Don't bother going early in the morning, you wont be able to see past 30 feet until the sun comes up.

Re: Utah Visibility Overview (please contribute!)

Deer Creek 9-29-2013 Started diving about 0730 Air temp 33 water temp much warmer 59. Vis was a short five feet. Deepest I dove today was 23' vis didn't much improve. Small walleye are scattered about but nothing of size. Not much shooting to speak of just a small bass for lunch and some dog food (carp). I wish I would have read IDreamofVis's report the morning dives are very dark.
