You guys seeing any kelp down there? Solid urchins and little to no kelp up here on the north coast.
Ron.

Dove county line last week. Viz poor, fire soot and runoff sand still on the sand flats making it murkier than it should be. Kelp at the outer reef very sparse but the urchins seem to have left the area or died off. Sparse bait and small schools of juvenile wsb other than that no one around.

West of Dume, some decent spots, 8-10 feet of vis.

Also found a snorkel on the beach that looks brand new nearby Leo Carillo. Describe it and it's yours.

Re: Malibu Conditions Permathread

Dove this morning outside the surf line North of Dume. Outside, viz was a variable 10-25 foot, lots of life in the eel grass on the way out. Immediately pegged, gutted and strung a 6lb YT in 30' of water in the long string kelp, about 10 foot down on my first drop. Sweet! Dove for another hour and got schooled by WSB, missed an easy 20 pounder. Time was short and I had a call so I headed in feeling good about my dive, even though I missed that white. Way inside the surf I spotted antenna in the eel grass. Easy practice grab and a 3lb'er to boot! I was parked 20 yards from my exit point so I said f-it, tailed the bugger and shoved it in my wetsuit. Cooked and chilled it and made a great lobster roll for lunch. My recipe below, for your consideration.

Spiny Lobster Roll, SoCali Style

1 Spiny lobster tail
1 rib of celery, diced
1/4 cup red onion, diced
1/4 cup cilantro, chopped
1/2 avocado, diced
1tsp Old Bay seasoning
3 TBSP mayonnaise
1tsp dijon mustard
1/2 lemon, juiced
salt and pepper to taste
2 Martin's Split Top Potato Hot Dog Rolls
1 tbsp butter

Prepare lobster
1. Steam lobster, chill and remove meat.

Prepare sauce:
1. Mix mayonnaise, mustard, Old Bay, lemon juice, onion and celery and 1/2 of the cilantro
2. Integrate ingredients together and add salt and pepper to your desired tastes
3. Mix sauce with lobster, return to refrigerator to integrate flavors, bind and cool.

Prepare Sandwiches:
1. Melt butter in over medium heat and add the buns face down and open. Mop up the butter to cover entire exposed surface. Heat until slightly browned.
2. Smash avocado on each open bun
3. Add 1/2 of lobster mixture into each bun
4. Top with remaining cilantro, and also red onion if you wish as desired.
