great idea ,, and simple ,,, I think you are using standard sch. 40 steel pipe.... If that can be found in SS or maybe brass ,,, or a type of mechanical tubing with the right ID would solve the rust issues ...
To reuse them , how hard is it to remove the brass casing ,,,, that 5200 is nasty stuff.

re loading them is quite easy actually- you just take a screwdriver- and put it in the tube and slam it down on a hard surface- and the shell comes out .
What IS more of a problem is when the shell casing wedges onto the speartip- when that happens- you need pliers.

btw - I am working on a new design that will use rare earth magnets to hold the PH in place- instead of the fuel hose

If its the gas that does the damage, then wouldnt a blank be better instead of wasting all that energy moving the projectile?

I make and use 45 cal PH's, I don't think the bullet has ever come out the other side, then again I always shoot for the head. I would think the bullet does some damage ( just like a spear thru the head would do some damage) but most likely it gives a nice path for the gasses to expand into. As for blanks, don't they have less powder in them? The other thing is, the more you restrict an explosion the more powerful it explodes ( kinda like raising the compression in a hot rod) and pushing a piece of lead out of the shell, VS a paper wad, would add to the compression effect.

I just finished my Batch of 45 cal. Got 9 of the 3.25 in tubes out of the Water Wrench I purchased for $8.67 at Home Depot. (as Impaler said "...the proper lengths to cut the metal tubing= 3 1/4" for .45 cal 4 1/2" for .308") However, I found that my Custom spears have the Flopper set at exactly 2 inches from the tip. This caused the TUBE to be too long, which would most likely prevent primer contact.(this discovery was made AFTER I had cut them all and 5200'ed the round in them( My Dumas mistake). I had made a practice one with a dummy round, which was how I fitted and found the problem. Sooo, I had to re size my tubes to 2.75 inches. Everything else worked out great and easy. My total investment came to $1.48 per unit, Ammo included, 5200 was on hand. Thanks again for this DIY idea and the GREAT video.
