Re: Alaska (Anchorage) Spearfishing Partners

Well kelsea I have looked into this for years, and seen it here and there. A guy around the corner from me on my Island here in washington owns a lodge, here is a link
http://www.kodiaklodge.com/fishing-a...ies/saltwater/

He tells me about the halibut that I could spear, I will spear a good ling and drop it at his house than talk a bit more, he has people run it for him, and I would have to come up with a diver friendy way of getting on the boats.

Ill work on him for ya if ya like the location.

Not yet. I moved here from Tahiti with my family a year and a half ago. Met some really great fellow divers already though (thanks Spearboard!). Spearing is really fun up here.

Kelsea, my bad. I did meet Tyson at our first annual spearo meetup in March. I haven't had the pleasure of fishing with him yet though.
Paul, thanks for that link. That guys knows a buddy of mine from HI and he's got a lot of great content on his user channel.

Re: Alaska (Anchorage) Spearfishing Partners

Well I finally made it to the east side of the island for spot prawn, seen a big boat at bob's place, I went to south side of gedney and limited out.

The good news is seen bob out checking pots on my way back and stopped and chatted with him. I asked him why he had a big kodiac lodge boat down here, his reply was its brand new and heading to alaska today.

Kelsea the good news is halibut are at 75' in clear water, perfect for freediving, so bob and his crew aboard are very interested in taking freedivers, and also divers, he needs to get compressor and tanks.

Also there are wrecks for other spearfishing that can be had.

Call Bob Maschmedt, Sr.
425-264-0911
206-972-0029 (cell)

If you are interested in this at all or have any info to help bob make this happen, he is going to inquire about the regulations for spearfishing in alaska.
and again here is a link to the lodge.

Re: Alaska (Anchorage) Spearfishing Partners

As I understand, there are no regulations specific to spearing in saltwater. Freshwater is not permissible. (I think pike is OK?.)

Just a word of warning; A substantial portion of the AK Wildlife Troopers are the kind of people that would give Nazi Brownshirts a bad reputation. I heard some awful stories while I was up there. Alaska has a confusing patchwork approach to game management, and you had better get it straight before you go out. Saltwater seemed a little more straightforward.

Based on what I heard, I'd take pains not to talk to those guys any more than necessary. FWIW. By all means, get the reg's straight and follow them.

Re: Alaska (Anchorage) Spearfishing Partners

Im starting to discover a small amount of spearos up here in Kodiak but there seems to be alot of SCUBA guys and only a few freedivers. I spend most of my time shore diving but i have a few buddies with boats that i can usually talk them into trade for labor on the boat so they will take me out to dive. I've been scouring this board and the internet for dive charters up here with no luck so far.

Re: Alaska (Anchorage) Spearfishing Partners

ive sent them an email before and im still waiting for a reply, but one of my coworkers just met a charter boat captain from here who is just getting into spearfishing and is willing to take us out for cost only as long as we teach him the basics. ill let everybody know how it goes. hopefully this is the start of a good thing and an option for people looking to come up here
