Overpowered guns

Getting a new coustom midhandle that will end up as my primary scuba and ledge gun. My riffe 48 inch will turn into my freediving gun after I stick a reel on it. Since I plan on shooting cobia and kings along with bottom fish, is three bands going to create too much shaft whip?

Alot more parameters go into shaft whip, also known as the archer's paradox

Band diameter
Band elongation % & total ppsi
Enclosed, open or semi open track
Track clearance tolerance and track material
Shaft diameter & shaft material / flex

Re: Overpowered guns

Unless you are seriously weak(no shame, just phyically under powered)there is never ever a need for 3 bands on reef guns.
1 big and 1 small diameter will give you the ability to power your gun as needed and more power than you'll ever need.

Re: Overpowered guns

I found overpowering my riffe 3 made it shoot terribly. On my current 48" gun with a 7mm shaft, I use two 14.5 mm bands and it's accurate to 5 meters.

Re: Overpowered guns

Over powering a gun makes it actually shoot with less power than properly powering it. It doesn't feel that way as recoil sort of blinds you into thinking you are getting more power as you are getting smacked around by the recoil. But if you put a penetration target test you will see that the shaft will have very little power. You can only push the power level according to how good your gun design is and how much mass the gun has. With a high handle and proper handle shaping you can really push the power up without the need of extra mass while still retaining good power to shaft transfer.
