Thinking about taking a trip to the Colorado/ Lake Mead sometime in the next few weekends. Anyone looking for a dive buddy?

Re: Spearfishing Las Vegas / Southern Nevada

How is the lake this time of year?

Tickets to Vegas are cheap.. thinking it could be a fun weekend trip to just fly out and shore dive lake Mead. Would be really cool to get some pointers from locals as to what areas of the lake are safe/good to dive ( assume there is a lot of boat traffic there?) or even to meet up and dive with me.

Of course I'd do my best to reciprocate should any of you want to come down to Texas(Houston) to dive.

Does anyone know if there are official rules about staying away from carp that the tourists feed at the main marina? I don’t even know for sure if they still school there or not. It was about 30 years ago was the last time I was there. I wouldn’t want to hunt them anyway it would be way too easy.

the viz in the winter is really good it can be 70'. The water is cold about 58.
The lake is very safe, no currents, almost no boat traffic in the winter.

For shorediving a float is a good idea and stay relatively close to the shore.
Is fresh water so you don't need as much weigh.
The lake areas close to the river however can have really strong currents and the water is even colder.
The hotels in Laughlin and Bullhead city this time of the year are cheap but there is a lot of remote camping opportunity where you can find your little private beach.
I'm from CA but I dove the lake many times.

You cannot spearfish within 500 yards of any marina
