Mono Quality?

Been buying a cheapo 400lb test 100yard for $20 deal on amazon..

I like to re-rig mono almost every trip.. so I went for the cheap bulk pack.

Now I'm wondering if this is coming back to bite me.

Do you get what you pay for with mono?

Do you pay the premium to buy from spearfishing outlets, or do you buy bulk line elsewhere?

I've lost a few shafts to fish that were much too small.. abrasion resistance against those rigs seems to be about nil!

I do smooth contact areas on shaft, so that's not the issue.

Haha, I was waiting for you guys to chime in

I've got some of that line on one gun as reel line, still using mono for my shooting wraps though.

I saw you've got neon green.. gonna have to get some from you, but it's gonna take close to $100 to fill my Ulu bluewater reel!

My buddy in Europe laughs at me for using Mono. He's a dyneema shooting line guy. I'm just not sure. Tangle concerns mostly.

Re: Mono Quality?

I have been using this brand for years momoi mono, has held fine on the rigs, i have never lost a shaft or a fish due to breakage.. i tried spectra but still feel mono holds up better on rigs ..

It can get expensive to use as reel line, that's where you use the cheaper i.e the link above. You'll love the bright green. When we're doing 80ft drops in 15 feet of vis, the line sticks out before the structure. 100% more abrasion resistant than mono. Only had 1 band tangle where I had to wrestle an AJ up from 30'. Probably shot 50 fish since i've started using this line, no issues. I used to use Momoi, good stuff. I just have no interested in changing out my shooting line every 1-2 trips. One of the advantages of using it for reel line is, you shoot a 50+lb fish and it pulls out 150ft of line, the stiff dyneema will be 10x easier to untangle on the boat. I'm definitely the kind of guy that believes you get what you pay for.
