Re: It's that time of year again

This guy showed up in the field next to me with his harem.Ate the beans out of my garden at night.
Been really hot and humid so the fishing has been sucky but I go out in the evening and troll for stripers, smoke cigars and listen to Buffett now that the doc cleared me to do stuff by myself.Actually to the Ultra about 100 miles and got cigars before he cleared me but I spent a few days on tylenol for that stupidity.

Another nice buck with does.Still hot here but evenings have dipped to the 60s and high 50s.Archery season should be pleasant to hunt.

Usually shoot does till they rub the velvet off.Lots of Bucks here till the pressure is on.Then they go nocturnal till the rut.Going to order a good commercial grinder this year for burger meat.

Nice, what kind of fat do you add to your burger meat.

I dont add fat to my ground venison.I typically use the meat for chili or spaghetti sauce.Without the fat it spreads really nice.
My sons add some beef fat.Either a sirloin tip chunk and grind it or a 10#tube of ground meat to make stuff stick.

Re: It's that time of year again

Our processor adds beef brisket to the ground, which makes the venison perfect for burgers. I find the Ground venison without some added fat doesn't hold together as a patty. Just kinda crumbles on the grill.

The deer are looking good this year so far down here in Texas.

Re: It's that time of year again

My youngest surprised me with the crossbow this afternoon.Dead on up to 50 yards.
He was showing me other deer here from the cam that were pretty impressive.Weather is cooling and light rain for several days.

Barnett crossbow and I believe a BOG tripod. Its good if you are not hiking with it over mountains.Crossbow is my older sons and tripod is my youngest sons.
They have two blinds set up year round that two hunters can be in each blind comfortably.Tripod keeps whatever you put in it pointed at the trail with no noise or excess movement.
Youngest will probably take a nice buck early this year so he can work on finding a bear.I will work on filling the freezers with doe and spike bucks.
Really just need a crossbow, bow or pistol to hunt here.I killed one doe on doe day with a 30/30 at 10 yds.Everything else has been compound bow or my 45 1911 at 10-20 yds.Got a Glock 10mm with Trijicon site on top I may warm up if we find a good bear.

Sounds like you're all set up for hunting season. I have a Ravin R26 crossbow with a Hawke XB30 Pro SR scope and love it.

Re: It's that time of year again

Finally got an evening hunt with my youngest son.Small doe walked in and I decided to let her grow.Larger doe came in but I didnt have any shots I was willing to take on her.few others were around the blind.
Pretty warm with very little moisture.Felt good just to be able to walk through the woods again.
