PII Deep Freediving Instruction, Daniel Koval
Good Evening Everyone,
I am fairly new to the world of spearfishing, and am ready to step up my game. To be honest I am terrible at holding my breath. My static PR is 1:34 and when I am diving I am usually only under for about 30 seconds! I want to take the PII Deep Freediving Instruction class with Daniel Koval, but it's $295, and that seams to be on the lower end of the price range for these things. Has anyone taken this class or a comparable one that they would be interested in reviewing. Are these worth it? Thanks

I believe you're talking about FII? I haven't actually taken the class, but plenty of people on here have and I haven't heard one bad thing about it. Down here, the class does their check out dives on my boat and most people reach a 3 minute breath hold and get down 20 meters. Aside from being able to hold your breath longer is the safety aspect of the class. They will teach you about shallow water blackouts and what to do if your buddy has one. Definitely worth the money. I'm sure others will chime in.

Re: PII Deep Freediving Instruction, Daniel Koval
I took it and it improved my diving experience and safety much more than any other $300 that I have spent and that is after 35 years of diving and spearing

unless you have the proper gear i would wait to take it. a good wet suit is a must when you learn to slow down your heart beat, you get cold fast.you need a dive watch to monitor your surface intervals, long blades and a low volume mask are a good idea to.

You don't "need" a watch. It is probably the least important and pretty expensive piece of gear. A good suit fins and mask definitely help

Taking a course will put you years ahead of the curve, safely. I assume that you are in OC. While he is a good instructor, I'm pretty sure that Koval is concentrating his efforts in Hawaii these days.
If you have any questions about courses or gear, please don't hesitate to contact me.

Not to sidetrack the thread but does anyone know of any classes in Northern California coming up?

Re: PII Deep Freediving Instruction, Daniel Koval
I took mark lozano' level 1 FII class up in redondo beach before brandon was operating closer to my home. I swear to you, these guys will help you double if not triple your depths and dive time w/ this class. Your safety awareness will also build tremendously.
If you don't have the proper gear, james & joseph in sd or harrys freedive and spear do rentals of high quality gear. As much as i love sport chalet, dont go there because theyll sell you scuba gear. |
