men in grey suits!
was wondering what the shark situation is in N.E.? Over here in Maui, we got 'em! Big one, little ones, nothing too scary unless you see the king of the landlords.....a 15' tiger who's in a bad mood! Always gotta keep your eyes open and scanning the area.....never get so involved with what you're doing that you forget where you are. I'm going diving in N.H. next month, is it something I have to worry about? Aloha and peace from "da islands"!

Re: men in grey suits!
Between 1959 and 1994 there were no shark attacks in NH waters and none that I can remember hearing about since.

Chava,
only sharks I have seen in NH waters were bluesharks, dogg fish, and basking...but I was in a boat. Are you going to be shore diving or you know someone with a boat?--Hook a brother up lol |

Re: men in grey suits!
Diving around Block Island a couple of weeks ago saw a 9 to 10 foot Blue shark and was coming up from about a 45 ft dive and the shark was just cruising away from me in the middle of the water column.
I believe there are quite a few sharks around but we just don't see them do to the usual 5 to 10 foot visibility. To back this up I hear a few stories each year about stringers hanging off the side of kayaks either missing or fish being torn off. Types of shark, Great whites Mako's Blues Sand dog fish Best of luck, D&O |

Who were the guys that had a white shark swim right between their kayaks again? Where abouts was that?

Re: men in grey suits!
I've encountered Blue Sharks twice off of the East Point tip of Fishers Island. Those two times were a couple years apart, each early a.m. in about 8 feet of clean rocky water. Both times the sharks were in the 8' to 10' range. Their eyes looked like billiard balls.
Since then I haven't gone back to that exact spot again. ,Noel. |

http://news.aol.com/story/_a/great-w...10215009990003 randome fact. there is at any given time 3 gw sharks populating coastal new england waters. best thing to do if you run into one is grab ur stringer and stick it down your wetsuit.......that way they wont know if you have any fish,........ does any one else find it odd that the shark fishing comp, and the spear fishing comp, are so close to each other.....? also great white shark was spotted by a site seing boat grabing seals into close to the shore. ( the fisherman ) new england edition pg 22r should be all the shark info you need on new england. in those links. be smart be safe dive with a buddy. |

Re: men in grey suits!
thanks for the info guys, I really appreciate it! I figured that there are sharks in NE, hopefully I wont see any. There are times over here when I "feel" them but don't see them. Usually when I get that feeling, I leave the area. And I never dive alone...stay alert, stay alive! Aloha from Maui!

Re: men in grey suits!
why when i told everyone I'd seen GWs, and seen dead seals with bites outta them did everyone brush it off. Now a few "experts" see some second hand photo and everyones a believer!! Do I have some sort of credibility issue??

Re: men in grey suits!
I don't remember anyone arguing with you that there were no whites out there. What I remember was a difference of opinion as to the actual danger they represent to divers, as opposed to the imagined danger.
