Special thanks to Majdq8 for his contribution in 2017
As I sit here, cutting new 14mm, primeline, bands (at 360%!) for yet another gun, I want to acknowledge the huge contribution from Majdq8 this past year and all previous. I find that when I don't agree with Majdq8, he uncovers my own ignorance in another video and I come around to his way of thinking. Big thanks. If there were a hall of fame, you would be nominated. I also like that you walk the talk and spear fish as well. It is one thing to be locked into a cubicle with calipers and a computer and yet another, to make it happen in the real world. Thanks man. I learned a tremendous amount from you this past year.

I'll pile on this as well. The praise is well deserved. I only hope is silence has been from being busy diving and with life in general and not from being discouraged.

Another vote from me, Majd your contributions have been invaluable to how I think about spearguns and look forward to more of your contributions to our sport in the future! Happy New Year everyone and I hope 2018 brings everyone a lot of great spearing trips and memories.

Thanks from a relative novice over here. His willingness to help people who he doesn't know and share information is proof that the internet can be used for good.

Re: Special thanks to Majdq8 for his contribution in 2017
My big take-aways are:
1. 1.4 mm coated stainless is a superior shooting line (over mono and spectra) for my use. 2. Exceeding terminal velocity costs fish. Switching to small id 14 mm (vs stock 16 mm bands) on my guns increases accuracy and food on the table. 3. Minimizing the length of spectra to 2 3/8" vs the stock 4 1/2" from the manufacturer allows more band. 4. Upgrading the trigger mech while opening up the line of site has been a complete game changer for my shooting ability. 5. Getting the arm inline with the gun through handle work is the next step on the blue water gun and is a must do item to increase performance. 6. De-burring the shaft and all other components, was a no brainer I had missed. 7. Experimenting with shafts to optimize accuracy is also a big help. 8. Knowing that no gun, is set up correctly from the factory, by design. After all, not everyone is going to pull back a band to 360% that buys a gun. 9. Switching to a revers trigger mech on two of my guns boost performance. 10. Above all: Expensive guns can shoot terribly if they are not optimized and inexpensive guns can shoot fantastic if they are optimized. Cost is no indicator of accuracy. With the education I received watching and rewatching those videos I went from a complete newbie to regularly bringing home dinner. While it is more about the hunter than the gun, I am now hitting what I aim at. |

+1 from me for Majd's fundamental contributions which took an amazzzing amount of time to not only do rigorous, repeatable quality pool testing, but then also editing videos. which is a LOT of thoughtful, yet tedious tasks. Not to mention clarifying fundamental physics of spearguns through good theory and testing/verification. Especially the handle mod.

Re: Special thanks to Majdq8 for his contribution in 2017
Thanks for all the kind words! I am happy that many of you found a lot of those posts and videos useful. At least I know all the time I spent on them was not wasted
Been really busy with work and the kids but will try and put up a few more videos on things I think can improve. A lot of progress has been made with triggers. While the Double Roller Triggers is really perfect, it cannot be used in small format boxes that are in pipe guns as you need 2 arms to hold the front roller. But this has been overcome! I know I rub some gun builders and commercial retailers the wrong way, and I am sorry about that. But in the end I think everyone gains when we look at data and accept the results even if they don't come out as expected or as we want them to. |
