Another report from the 279 (August 20th)
I went out again to see if I could get another fish or two. Left DP harbor at about 5 am. Headed straight out to the 279 and found a nice paddy about mile in from it. I suited up, jumped in and saw one YT swimming around the schooling bait. He didn't seem to mind me too much...until I shot a spear throught his vertebrae! I re-rigged my gun to use my reel (which was awesome not have float line getting in the way). He spooled out about 50 feet of line and he didn't really have a whole lot of fight in him. I towed him over to the boat, reeled him in and threw him in the boat and thought to myself, "this thing is huge". At least huge compared to the few YT that I have seen.
I left that padddy after a while and then jumped in on another fat one. I jumped in about 75 meters from the paddy and immediately saw a school of nice sized dorado. I loaded my gun as fast as I could and waited for the school to come around. When they cruised by again I picked out a bull and nailed him. It was an awesome day. I didn't see much action after that, but those two fish were fun as hell! That makes my 2nd dorado and 2nd YT ever (and in the same week). I can't wait to do it again. How much longer do y'all think these paddies will be holding fish? See you out on the water (or under it), JAKE |

My gun is a RIffe MT#4...I love it. Although I don't really have anything to compare it to. That is my first and only gun.

What are you doing with a loaded gun and the safety off on a boat?!?!?
Nice dorado and yellow tail, though. Brave camera man. |
